Vienan kauppatien muistomerkki
This memorial is located on the intersection of Kitkantie and Paanajärventie roads. The memorial was completed in 1995 and it was designed by architect Seppo Koutaniemi. The monument has 4 cusps; they got their shape from a kirveskoru (an axe-shaped piece of jewellery) from Kuusamo.
The memorial depicts the Viena trade route. The Viena trade route was an important passage to east all the way to the shores of the Arctic Ocean. During the autonomy (1809-1917) the eastern border of Finland was relatively free to cross.
