III armeijan muistomerkki
"In memory of the III army corps fighters 1941-1944"
This memorial is located on the yard of the tourism and culture centre Karhuntassu. Three bronze plaques and a horizontally placed stone from the Salpa Line have been placed on a cement frame. The memorial for the fighters of the Winter War and the Continuation War is designed by architect Seppo Koutaniemi and was unveiled during the III army corps veteran celebration in 1989.
"From here the men of Kuusamo left for the Winter War in 1939-1940"
The road the men of Kuusamo took to the battlefield went next to the memorial. In september 1939 the men left toward Suomussalmi, where the partisan activity of the men of Koillismaa tied the enemy forces and prevented them from advancing. The men left for the Continuation War in june 1941 towards Kiestinki. During the summer and autumn heavy fighting occurred and the front froze 40 kilometres from Louhi.
"In honour of the soldiers who died in Kiestinki in 1941-1944"
The III army corps took heavy casualties in battles. The aim was to bring the wounded and the dead away from the battlefield, but over a hundred dead had to be left to the Kiestinki-Louhi area in August and September of 1941. These soldiers who were encircled in Kiestinki don't have a memorial on their actual graves.

The Kuusamo municipality has a total of twenty four statues and monuments. Most of them are about war history, but there are also some that are about significant people and events.
A Monument can be a decorated stone, a wooden, stony or metallic structure, or a simple mark like a metal plate or a carving on a rock.
