The willow warbler is one of the most plentiful species in Finland. It is a greenish yellow bird, that is recognizable from the clearly visible fair eyebrow streak and the fair / brownish legs.
Its bright sounding song is simple, gentle and has a sad tone. It lowers in pitch towards the end, and decreases in volume at the same time. Sometimes a male can end the song in a rising pitch.
the willow warbler nests in a oven-like nest hidden in grass, that has been built using canes, lined with feathers and covered from above. The nest is usually on a clearing or next to it.
It eats insects and spiders.
It winters in southern- and eastern Africa and migrates to Finland in may.
Munakka Forest Trail showcases the local nature on a lit trail, which can be used for brisk exercise during summer and for skiing during the winter.
