The redwing is the smallest of the thrush species in Finland. It can be recognized from its red sides and the white stripes on its head, that are missing on other thrush species.
It can be found in the forests by its active singing. The singing varies by area, but it always features a soft, chatty chirp. Males can sing around the clock, so the singing of the redwing is one the typical sounds of spring.
They live mainly in groves and in mixed forests, but they don't avoid cultural landscapes. They can also be seen in parks.
Redwings winter in Western- and Southern Europe, Middle-East and Northern Africa, and they migrate to nest in Finland in april and may. Redwings migrate with other thrush species starting from April to May.
Munakka Forest Trail showcases the local nature on a lit trail, which can be used for brisk exercise during summer and for skiing during the winter.
