On the park-side wall of the Oulu Lyceum are the memorial plaques for the three Finnish Presidents who used to study at the school: K. J. Ståhlberg (presidency 1919–1925), Kyösti Kallio (1937–1940) and Martti Ahtisaari (1994–2000). There is also a plaque commemorating the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Martti Ahtisaari in 2008. On the Kajaaninkatu side there is a memorial plaque for the victims of war who died in the Oulu bombings in 1939 - 1944. The oldest part of the Lyceum was designed by architect C.L. Engel and finished in 1831.
