Granite stone used to be extracted from Heikkilänmäki for gravestone building material.
The Stone Quarry was opened by Antti Santaholma in the 1890s after a business acquaintance of his from Scotland inquired about the possibility. Santaholma transported granite to England and Scotland. It is confirmed that there are still gravestones in Newcastle cemetery made from Finnish granite.
The first stone quarry of Santaholma was located in village Etelänkylä, near the Mustola house (exact location uncertain).
Along Santaholma, granite was extracted also by the brothers Friis beginning in 1895, and Johan W. Hagan from Kokkola, as well as a few Scotsmen later on.
The granite quarry business continued until the beginning of the First World War in 1914.
