The First Home of the Koivunen Family

Kuusamon kaupunki

A hazy windowpane at home in Kätilönmutka on Kitkantie and dry rocks were the first materials which the talented young girl drew her thoughts on. By chance - or due to the guidance of a higher power - Lahja Koivunen was admitted to a drawing school in Turku and could live her dreams. The art studies in Turku and Helsinki lasted over 10 years in periods of varying lengths. Koivunen's life's work was marked by an unwavering faith in the guidance of God, sense of responsibility towards her family and strong sense of patriotism.

Along the way I thought of how little I have thanked God, that the Lord has really given me that I prayed for at my home when I turned 20. I have been allowed to come here and learn how to paint - God is wonderful in His guidance. He lets wishes come true, but keeps our bodies in discipline so that our minds must be humbled. He also doesn't let us become too attached to the mundane. (Letter to sister Kyllikki 19.11.2022)
