Pokkinen park

Oulun kaupunki

Pokkinen park, located at the mouth of Kaupunginoja, is partly built on filled soil. Pokkinen was a popular park area already in the 1860s. The city canal was deepened near the park during the famine years' employment work, and at that time e.g. trees were planted there. lime trees. After the completion of the bridges crossing the Oulu River in 1869, Pokkitörmä's importance in the cityscape grew. The park has been improved over the years, the designers have been e.g. Helsinki city gardener S. Olsson and Helsinki garden architect Bengt Schalin at the beginning of the 20th century.
