Madetoja park was named in 1965 after a composer who was born in Oulu. The park is bordered by Oikokatu, which was opened in the direction of the Oulujoki bridges in the 1920 site plan. The park got its current shape in the 1947 site plan when the northern part was added to it. Around this time, the playground that used to be in Pokkinen park was also moved to the park.
