The part of Hallituspuisto on the Torikatu side was named Maria Silfvan park in the city's jubilee year 2005. Maria Silfvan was born in Turku and she was the first Finnish professional actress. In the 1840s, Maria Silfvan started performing theater shows with her husband Carl Westerlund. At the end of the decade, a house known as Westerlund's salon was built for the theater, which was located on the site of the current town hall.
