KULO has been inspired by the tradition and beliefs associated with slash-and-burn farming. At the core of this work, which fits within the framework of contemporary art, is the cycle of life: ignition, burning, uncontrolled destruction, turning to ash, the power of water, and rebirth. The devastating force brought about by human actions is eventually countered by the hope found in the fertility and richness of the land. This cycle is also reflected in the spatial construction of the work: the audience walks clockwise within the piece, experiencing a multisensory journey.
