Kuusamon kaupunki

The Holy Cross Church is designed by architect Bertel Liljeqvist and it is a so-called "long church". The church was completed in 1950 and it was formally inaugurated on 26.8.1951.

The Church Council accepted the architectural plan according to the type B draft:

  • the church would be rectangular
  • length 48 metres
  • height from the ground to the roof ridge 18,5 metres
  • church tower height approximately 50 metres
  • 5 obtuse windows on the sides of the church
  • a sacristy on the east end
  • organ loft on the west end
  • 736 seats on the church hall and 59 seats on the lectern

The murals inside the church were painted by artist Antti Salmenlinna.
