Lohilaakso - Salmon Valley

Kalajoki

The former lighthouse keeper of the Ulkokalla island, Tapani Pirkola, opened a salmon farm in the area called Tahkokorvat in 1978. Visitors could fish for their own salmon from the salmon farm’s lake.

Like many other old tourism businesses in Hiekkasärkät, the salmon farm known as Lohilaakso, operated in a “recycled” old barn transported to its place from elsewhere.

Nowadays, as well as fishing, people can also enjoy tasty fish dishes cooked in both traditional and modern ways in Lohilaakso.
