Church of Kalla

Kalajoki

The first church in Maakalla was built in 1680.

The current church was designed and built by a local builder Simo Jylkkä (Silvén) in 1780.

The church has eight angles, and it is made of logs. The interior is not painted, while the exterior is painted in a traditional way with red clay paint. The stone base is made of rocks from the island.

Next to the church there is a simple bell tower and a small vicarage.

The church was repaired and renovated in 1952.
