The museum has closed from summer 2025 - see you again next year!
Siltasaari Museum exhibits the lifestyles of local people from days-gone-by. There is also an old barn and a windmill from the 1700s on the museum premises.
This location used to be where Kalajoki’s first Dairy Plant was founded in 1914. The construction was overseen by building master Anton Lankila.
Also, there used to be a bed & breakfast–style hotel, and a café run by the Lotta Svärd organization.
The museum is located inside the “Törnvall-house”, which was transported here in 1964 from the location where the current city hall is now. The house is from the 1800s, and it is one of the oldest buildings in Kalajoki. It also served as the courthouse for the Awakening movement in 1838.
After the 1930s, the house also operated as a children’s health center and as the main library, before it was transported to its current location in Siltasaari.
Nowadays you can learn about old local artifacts and textiles which are exhibited inside the house.
The museum is managed by the local association of Kalajoki (Kalajoen kotiseutuyhdistys).
